Just finished a week of being the History Man in several primary schools in Devon.

In June I was Storyteller- in -Residence at West Croft Junior School in Bideford and last week they invited me back to run an Ancient Egyptian drama day with Year 3’s .

This is an action packed hands on, up and at ’em approach to teaching history. Each of the three classes learns about different aspects of Ancient Egyptian life through role-play, dance and song. At the end of the day we put on an assembly for parents.

Amongst the highlights are the mummification re-enactments and the Journey to the Afterlife. The show culminates with the weighing of a pharaoh’s heart on the Scales of Justice.

The next day I put on my make up, dressed in my finest tartan and dissed the Romans who invaded Britain and annoyed the Celts. I love this show because I get to be a grumpy old man and get paid for it. I usually do it for free at home!

Thursday saw me as eccentric classical scholar Dr.Oliver FiG. I performed my Ancient Greek show for Year 5’s at Decoy Primary School, Newton Abbot.

It was Aztec Friday at Gatehouse Primary in Dawlish where I told the pupils some wicked tales from Mexico.
